Hethkraal Loamden is the location where this transmission happens at the Reach’s highest level: the stronghold whose practitioners are recognized across the distributed clan settlements as the sources for advanced weapon shaping and tunnel engineering that other settlements’ expertise does not match.

The “loamden” in the name refers to the specific soil composition in this section of the Reach — the loam layers that the tropical growth above has been building for long periods produce a particular consistency in the tunnel walls that makes specific construction techniques possible here that cannot be replicated in areas with different soil character. Whether Hethkraal Loamden’s construction expertise was developed here because the loam enabled it, or whether practitioners chose this location because the soil suited techniques they had already developed elsewhere, is not determinable from available sources.
