Grubvurmkind
Insectoid people organized into small, clannish groups with two castes—Grubvurm builders and fighters, Stingers scouts and messengers—claiming vast underground territories through an endless web of tunnels.
The humid, decaying land of Molthrak belongs to Grubvurmkind — though intruders rarely confirm this through sight first. They feel the subtle shift of the soil, or hear movement below their feet before an engagement begins. Thick tropical growth covers almost everything on the surface. Beneath it lies an endless web of tunnels, thoroughly claimed underground even where the surface shows no settlement at all. There is no traditional sprawling empire. The entire land is claimed anyway.
Grubvurmkind are small, highly clannish groups spread across the Reach. All originate from the same source: the Ooth, or Oothecas, of the rarely seen ovoviparous female. What determines whether an offspring develops into a land-bound Grubvurm or a flying Stinger is completely unknown—anyone attempting close study has failed to survive and report back. After emerging, grublings mature rapidly. They are universally aggressive, hungry, and dangerous in large numbers.
The two castes are functionally symbiotic and equally intelligent. Grubvurm are the primary builders, diggers, and fighters. They construct tunnel fortifications and utilize manufactured weapons and tools. Their independently moving eyes grant an unusual advantage in combat—dual weapons, split focus, no hesitation. Stingers are less common, remaining above ground in dense canopy shade. They serve as scouts, harass intruders from the air, and relay information between clans. They do not craft or use tools.
Strength lies not simply in potential numbers, but in superior positioning, seamless coordination between castes, and the critical fact that the ground works entirely for them. True conflict occurs underground, where they hold absolute mastery. Any entity that pushes too deep into their territory is dealt with aggressively and directly.
The Grubvurmkind maintain hostile relations with the humans of the Roaring Wastes, representing the primary external land-based threat. Due to their secluded geographical location and inhospitable terrain, they have virtually no direct contact with elves, dwarves, or most other distant factions.
