Focus: Revising Black Cards prompts to match atmospheric Vault Voice
What We Did
- Started collaborative review of all 10 Black Cards prompts (same process as Red Cards)
- Revised 5 cards: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 (5 remaining: 6-10)
Card Revisions
Card Ace (Authority/Unstable terrain):
- Removed ominous/prescriptive language
- Focused on obstacle appearing
Card 2 (Expert/Markings):
- Cut over-explanatory ending
- Kept mystery of decoding information
Card 3 (Traveler/Shortcut):
- Full atmospheric treatment
- Blended two options for vivid scene of help arriving
Card 4 (Territorial creature/Narrow passage):
- Atmospheric prompt emphasizing demands/tribute/respect
Card 5 (Supplies):
- Redesigned suit meanings: Rival competing vs Protected cache
- Atmospheric discovery with tension
Key Decisions
Writing Approach:
- Established atmospheric tone as preferred approach
- Longer prompts (3-4 sentences) that paint vivid scenes
- Identified pattern issue: early prompts were too prescriptive/mechanical, needed scene-painting instead
Suit Meanings Updated:
- ♠ Rival competing for supplies
- ♣ Cache protected by traps
- Maintains social/environmental pattern
Future Tasks Identified
- Revisit Nat 1/Nat 20 roll tables - may need separate tables for Red Cards vs Black Cards
Progress Update
- Session paused at card 6 - ready to continue with remaining 5 cards next session
